The brain and muscle behind the election of Michael Steele to head the Republican National Committee was Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus. It's been a priceless gift to comedy writers and Democrats.
Now Priebus has been working to create a line of attack on Senator Russ Feingold by just plain making stuff up about Feingold being "silent on the issue" of federal loan guarantees for Milwaukee-area manufacturer Bucyrus International preserving hundreds of jobs. The CEO of Bucyrus International then responded with a letter denying Priebus' assertion and detailing Senator Feingold's efforts to help them get the Export-Import Bank's ruling reversed.
Response from Priebus so far: silence.
Appropriate response: "D'oh!"
Forward Our Motto has the gist here.
