Another US Airline filed for bankruptcy as Independence Airlines went chapter 11. I flew on United two weeks ago with a pilot with a sense of humor. As we taxied to the gate he slightly modified the usual appreciation to the passengers:
Welcome to Chicago. If this is your final destination, welcome home, if you are connecting to another flight, we want you to know we are pleased to have served you and wish you our best on your continuing travels.
We thank you for flying United, we know you have many bankrupt airlines to choose from.
Yes, federal deregulation of the airline industry is a smashing success. Virtual every major airline is in bankruptcy and more are going down. Delays are once again over 20% and cancellations are at their highest level since 2001.
Fuel costs are at their highest levels since 1981.
The airlines are heavily subsidized by out tax dollars; I don't have a quarrel with that. What I do quarrel with is this bizarre form of right wing socialism that provides the worst of not both, but of three worlds: high prices, lousy service, and they can't even stay in business.
Can't anyone around here shoot straight?
So then, here is our opportunity to create an aerial version of the cost-effective and money-making national rail passenger service that was born in 1971.
We can even all it Flamtrak, in consideration that if gets off the ground, it might even fly.
