Pennsylvania Senator, Arlen Specter (R) should either keep his mouth shut or face reality in regards to the Bush National Security Agency (NSA)- New York Times scandal. In the understatement of the century (yes, its only five years old) Specter told the Associated Press:
There is no doubt that this is inappropriate.
Inappropriate? Inappropriate is belching at the dinner table or barfing on some foreign dignitary. Inappropriate is the behavior of most teenagers at least three times a day.
This is a travesty, a disaster, most certainly criminal, and along the lines of treason. The only question is which is worse: Bush sanctioning the violation of at least two provisions of the Bill of Rights, or the New York Times suppressing the story for a year? Recent developments at the Times makes it clear that we should not be surprised.
One of the greatest tragedies is the chilling effect this will have on scrupulous government whistle blowers. The Times left at least one patriotic American out in the cold and there could be more. There is a story to be told about whoever confirmed and shared the details with The Times and was left to dangle in the breeze with America's least dependable newspaper sucking Bush wind.
