The Johnny Damon move to the Yankees interests me in a curious way. As I should, I hate the Yankees and I don't have much use for the Red Sox.
I like Damon. He is eccentric without being offensive. He plays a dusty, tough kind of baseball which a lot of fans associate with Pete Rose's hustle. Damon plays ball with skill and commitment, but without Rose's meanness.
I just can't figure him conforming to the Yankee-Steinbrenner frame of mind when it comes to running the bases or opening his mouth.
I hope Damon is happy in pinstripes. I hope the Yankees lose. If Damon abandons New York, I won't be surprised.
