Well, just when you think political stunts couldn't get lower and stupider, Republican AG candidate JB Van Hollen took Wisconsin into the sub-basement with his Capitol media event last week. Claiming that "there are terrorists training and raising money in Wisconsin," Van Hollen managed to unite both incumbent Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager and Republican candidate Paul Bucher, Waukesha County District Attorney. Both termed Van Hollen's assertions "irresponsible." Yep.
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk's campaign called the stunt "a political scare tactic." You think?
Van Hollen's already tested this ploy on the road, trying, for example, to scare members of the Rotary Club in Superior:
A Rotary member asked if there are terrorist concerns in this district.
“Do we have cells in this area?” asked Van Hollen. “Yes. There is significant terrorist activity in every jurisdiction of the United States. Our district is no exception.”
Proving no stupid campaign ploy is without its silly blog-reaction, "Leaning Blue" has invented "Where in Wisconsin is Bin Laden?" Combining "Where's Waldo?" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" with crude use of photomanipulation, Leaning Blue's "Belle" lets us see if Osama is at the Dells or in the Cave of the Mounds.
Personally, I suspect he's been in Sheboygan all along. Don't worry, though. I'll bet by the fall primary, Van Hollen's press conferences in county courthouses all over the state will chase those terrorists all the way to Rockford.
