It was a good weekend for bicycling. I love hot muggy days even though they pose a danger for dehydration. Saturday I rode to Paoli. Twenty years ago that would have been a sprint. Sunday I did the UW Arboretum and the Lake Monona Loop.
- Out to Paoli, everyone had a helmet.
- The blacktop in portions of Fitchburg, like along Seminole Highway, is a recylced product with a very high coefficient of friction. That is why pedaling it is tougher. Enjoy it riders, it makes you tougher. I hate it.
- I see birds of prey on this ride I did not see in the Madison area twenty years ago.
- Also turkeys. Very dumb. In the Arboretum.
- Sunday's ride around Madison had the usual helmetless riders.
- The city is repairing a portion of University Avenue. Nice. Both the cities of Madison and Monona have to do something about Monona Drive.
What's so dumb about turkeys in the Arb? Considering they've got a brain the size of a walnut, they do alright. Ben Franklin rooted for them as national bird.
