And so it goes

Ty O'Mara

When I was a teen, I couldn't get enough of Mr. Vonnegut.... then the book, "Slapstick," came out. I read about 5 or 6 pages and I couldn't go on; just lost interest. Never read him again. It surprised me to find out that he is being taught in schools today, perhaps I should revisit my old friend.

I consider a short story of his, "Deer in the Works(?)" to be one of his most important works.

I've been spared the atrocity of being in a war; certainly Vonnegut's absurdity is a product of his war experience. He never accepted the bombing of Dresden as absurd. It must have been too beautiful a city to accept it's destruction.

And so it goes.

that is a great letter, I am a big Vonnegut fan. That website is also pretty cool, thanks for the link. I love the Frank Sinatra one up there to Mike Royko.

Thank you for posting the letter that was the basis for Schlacthaus Funf. Germans still call Dresden Zerstoren Stadt: destroyed city.
