Make Music Madison 2015 Registration

The deadline to register for Make Music Madison 2015 is quickly approaching! Don't miss the chance to showcase your musical talents in over 90 venues across the City of Madison. There is no fee to register and the City will take care of permits for public spaces; all you need to do is make some music. Registration closes on May 8, 2015. Our city is full of talented musicians and I look forward to seeing them in action once again!

Downtown Bicycling and Moped Parking Survey

The City of Madison Traffic Engineering Department is looking for ways to improve bicycle and moped parking in Downtown Madison! The survey asks for input on use and interest in bicycle and moped parking downtown. The online survey is open now until May 15th. I encourage Madison residents to take advantage of this opportunity to have your voice heard by taking the survey at the link below:

POP! Challenge

In celebration of National Library Week, the Madison Public Library Foundation wants to hear your ideas! Through May 17^th, the Foundation is asking Madisonians how they would use $20,000 to make Madison Public Libraries even better. From new collections, to additional programming, they want to hear it all through their POP! Challenge.

Here’s how it works: Madison residents can submit their ideas here. Residents are encouraged to share the challenge with their creative friends via Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #PopChallenge. The Foundation will present the top proposals for a public vote in early June. The winning ideas will be backed by up to $20,000!

I’m excited to see all of our Madison resident’s great ideas become a reality in our Madison Public Libraries!

 

Full Service Schools

Congratulations to Madison Schools on their receipt of a $300,000 grant from the Madison Community Foundation to develop full service schools! Alder Denise Demarb attended the press conference on behalf of the City to hear the announcement.

Full service schools provide access to countless community services for children and parents alike, including on-site access to health care, food, mentoring, academic tutoring, and parent leadership opportunities. I am proud to have provided my support to their grant application efforts.

This grant represents a huge step in the right direction as we work to eliminate barriers to opportunity for all Madison residents.

City of Madison Selected for Third Americas Competitiveness Exchange Tour

I am happy to share that Madison has been selected as a feature site for the Third Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) tour.  The ACE tour highlights advanced technology centers, innovation hubs, public private partnerships, exports, and foreign direct investments in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois.

On April 21^st and 22^nd Madison will welcome a delegation of nearly 50 foreign trade and innovation  ministers, private sector leaders, mayors, chancellors, university presidents, and other leaders from all over the world, including the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, Jay Williams.

Members of the delegation will be meeting with local business and government leaders and touring local companies.

Congratulations to our Madison innovators on this impressive achievement! I look forward to meeting the delegation!
