Russ Feingold Another Victim

There was plenty of chatter about the Democrats' ability to retake control of the United States Senate. Of the six seats in play, the Democrats would need either four or five, depending if the Vice President was a Democrat.

The Dems won one: Illinois.

In Wisconsin, Russ Feingold was one more casualty of the lackluster national Democratic performance fashioned by the top of the ticket. One of the finest elected officials in the state's history (no war in Iraq, no Patriots Act), Feingold was defeated by the Trump coattails and the Clinton lethargy.

Just one example:

Dane County, with a population of 524,000, produced a Clinton margin over Trump of 146,236.

Milwaukee County. with a population of 958,000, produced a Clinton margin of only 162,895.

Add to that the lower turnout statewide and the underperformance of Clinton and it all makes sense. especially after reading this article on turnout in  The Capital Times.

Even when we do field great candidates .........................damn.

I'm probably nitpicking, but the Dems actually picked up two Senate seats; in addition to Illinois Maggie Hassan beat Kelly Ayotte in New Hampshire.
